Possible 7 owner

What up.. I just bought a RX-8. have had it for about a month now.. and i'm sure you all have heard about the power deficiency a/c problems, oil and gas consumption.. At any rate, I am leaning toward the repurchase.. I love the car, looks great, just think that next years model will provide a better car- I am looking a RX-7 that is for sale, there's actually two in orlando, ones a private seller, other a dealer .. both have rebuilt engines, all hoses etc changed.. I am wondering about how reliable these cars are..

I don't want to get rid of the 8, get a 7 and then the engine blow on me later down the road.. / Had friend that had his 7 blow up, cost about 7k to fix / Anyway, just looking for some input/ point of views from 7 owners. How would I know (when I go look at the 7's) that its in good shape?? Thanks for the info.

-Joe

Look for smoke when started up and when warmed up.Check receipts and confirm new parts.Listen to the engine run and test drive and listen for spark knock. If you can get compression numbers that will tell you everything. The compression should be 85-130 psi.The higher the better. That's all I got for now.
