I have an '85 RX7 w/ a carburator. I bought this car recently and the engine it came with had a bad apex seal. I bought a used engine w/ good seals and swapped engines. I also swapped the intake and carb setup from the bad engine to the good. I drained the old fuel from the tank and lines and put in fresh fuel. The carb is getting fuel, it has spark, and it has compression. It will run using starting fluid, but when that is used up it dies. It will not run on its own fuel. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Check that you're fuel filter is not clogged, Check that you're fuel pump is working and that it's at the right pressure. Also check the timing. The timing might be off and you're getting spark at different times that the gas.

Check those things.

 

Sounds like you are not getting enough fuel to run.Might as well as replace the filter.
