Porting question

I just bought this 91 13b turbo motor that was just overhauled by my friend from a company in Tampa, a month ago. He told me that the motor was street ported but i'm not really sure if he's telling me the truth, is there anyway to tell if it has been ported with the motor all to gether?

Take off the lower intake manifold and look in the ports. You really cant see the exhaust porting.

if its somewhat shiny and/or a bit smooth then its ported, althought the next questiion would be, "how good is the port work"

As you can see from the pictures below the stock exhaust port will have a lip that should be noticed by looking as well as by touch. if the motor is ported then the lip should be flush with the insert similar to the second picture. This is visable when the exhaust manifold is removed

identifying a port job by the intake port can be difficult as a lot of half *** port work doesn't include any runner work... In most cases you really need to know what your looking at to determine if a motor has been ported or not...

your best bet is to educate yourself on what porting is and what it looks like by searching the forum for "porting" and reading the threads and looking at the pictures

as you can see there is lots to read... have fun learning
