Petit built engines.

Hey there. I was hoping if any one could explain the difference in their 13b twin turbo series 6,7,8. If there is any major difference. Also I was hoping if some one could explain what the Renesis 3 is. I looked it up and searched through forms and apparently it’s a 3 rotor but some said it wasn’t good ? But I couldn’t find any renesis 3 anywhere else when I searched it up.

Have you tried contacting Petit and asking them?

I don’t want to call them when I’m not ready to get an engine yet. I’m just trying to learn first about rotarys.

Don't be afraid to call them and ask questions. Cam is very helpful and will answer any questions. I had Pettit rebuild the engine in my FD and it has been rock solid for around 8 years.

series 6 93-95
series 7 96-98
series 8 99-02
core 13B-REW is the same for all, the changes were external to the motor (vaccum hoses, turbos, oil injectors, etc)

Renesis III is just a Renesis with lower compression FD rotors, it's on their page

i do not know what a "Renesis 3" is. so, i'm not really trying to touch that question. i've heard/read about 3 rotor engines based on the Renesis design over the years, but i have not seen any evidence of Mazda making one yet. even if they did, they would probably name it something else .... i'm thinking.

as for your other question, i think the engines (the block itself) in the S6, S7 and S8 cars are basically the same. they are all the REW. the differences seem to be in things like turbochargers and other ancillary parts.

it's Stage 3 for a Renesis engine intended fo a turbo or SC for the RX8 application as described, but putting REW/13B rotors in a Renesis side port motor creates a lot of issues. Mazda specifically addressed this with redesigning the sides and extensive sealing modifications on the Renesis rotors per the SAE paper. With REW rotors it ends up with a lot of exhaust blowby not only to the intake side, but also into the oil sump and system. It really needs a dry sump if the intention is for extended high speed operation to separate it out of the engine oil or foaming may be an issue. That was straight from Cam if I understood him correctly. Lowering the compression for FI will benefit a Renesis, but I'm convinced that this isn't the way to do it after he pretty much told me the same thing.
