Passed CA emissions!!!!

I can't believe it! And here I thought I'd be donating 300.00 to the "VIP" emissions test team. The cars' not heavily modded, just downpipe, cat-back, and Cheap Bastard Airbox mod. Air pump is still hooked up. I just wanted to do a pre-test to see what type of "damage" I'd have to do to make it pass the real smog test.

Well the shop manager didn't understand what I had meant and did the real test. I realized what he was doing about 20 minutes in and almost freaked! I didn't want a "fail, gross polluter" on my record from the git go.

The "tech" looked over the engine bay, spending at least 10 minutes on the turbo section alone. Funny, he pretty much let me go on the exhaust (Farrell Supercars) as I didn’t have any paperwork on it. He totally missed the downpipe.

Here are the numbers:

Test

RPM CO2 O2 HC (ppm) CO(%) NO(ppm)
Mes/ Mes/ Mes - Max/ AVE./ Meas. - M/ Avg/ Mes - M/ Avg/ Mes

15 mph - 1752/14.1/1.1 - 88/21/41 - .52/.06/06 - 704/150/348

25 mph - 2004/14.3/0.9 - 53/13/27 - .50/.05/.10 - 738/136/232

The crazy thing about the test is that they couldn’t place my car on the lift, so instead of driving into the engine bay, I had to turn her around (with the front outside of bay). This obviously made for a difficult visual.

Today was a good day

~Mike

Sorry I couldn't make this any cleaner!

Nice! It's good to know some of the techs don't know what they're looking for HAHA you got lucky! I failed CA emissions 2 years ago cuz my NO2 levels were up in the 900's ... the guy was cool and didn't charge or report me cuz I made a deal with him to get my car smogged at his place again once I got it taken care of, and also bought him lunch

Ryan,

The exhaust is a Peter Farrell Supercars S.S., dia. =3". The cat is an oem replacement.

I will be going back there for the Passat's test. It's been modded a little too. Hopefully he won't notice the changes.

If anyones' interested, the shop's info is as follows;

ARCO Smogpros
1819 Cloverfield Blvd
Santa Monica, 90404
310. 828. 0044
