oil leaking out of exhaust. blown apex seals?

so i picked up a 93 rx7 base model. basic mods 3in downpipe, fmic, and apexi power fc with commander. other than that car is stock. when i bought it everything was perfect 2 days later when i start it up THICK white smoke is dumping out of the exhaust. i let it warm to see if it goes away but nothing. i notice oil is dripping out of the flanges of the exhaust and the turbo. i thought turbo seals completely went out. so i replaced the turbo yesterday and still the same results. oil is pouring into the turbo and into the exhaust. and the car literally smoked my whole block with just a start up. the weird thing is the car idles perfect and drives perfect. its just smoking like a train. im unsure where to start with what is wrong. only thing i can think of is an apex seal went out? any input with where to start would be appreciated!

If it runs and drives perfect, it isnt an apex seal. My guess would be oil control rings.

Oil control rings most likely. Engine will require a rebuid if that is the case, however it is pretty rare for the oil control rings to fail.

Do a search on removing the turbos and starting the car with the turbos removed to make sure the turbos you put back on dont have the same issue. If you put on another used set it really is just taking a guess.

we just rebuild our engine, everything was perfect and all of the sudden it started smoking, we took out the turbo and place a block turbo back housing and still smoke. Then we took the engine apart again and the only thing we found was a broken oil ring spring tip also the inner seals of the outer rings where deform. everything else looks perfect. hopefully the problem is that broken spring.

Hi!

I had the same problem with my car. Changed the turbo three times with no positive results. Then i took the engine apart and found a crack under one of the apex seals in the front rotor. It was smoking ALOT!

Look at my own thread about this problem. I then changed the rotor to a good used one and machined it to 3mm apex. And have then been running 1,2 bar for a whole summer including trakcdriving. Im using the same motor this year too =)
