Oil leak around oil filler neck to center plate

Hello everyone so i have a 2000 rx7 and it has a pretty fresh engine, maybe around 4000 Kilometers done on it. so ive started to get a oil leak around the oil filler neck where it joins to the center plate i think. ive been wiping it down and trying to see where it is seeping from after i drive it for a bit but i cant seem to pinpoint the area. i know where the oil neck joins to the plate is oily and there is oil on the spark plugs and around the dipstick area. any help with this would be awesome as im keen to learn more about fixing my car. Thanks

it's probably just the 2 O-rings under the oil filter pedestal that's causing the leak. the dowel pin O-rings should have been replaced when the engine was put together.

make sure that the flange that the filler neck bolts on is tight on the block. you might be having a leak on the oring that the neck bolts on and it leaks when there's blowby.

couple things.....

the flange that the oil neck bolts to is a press fit. you wont know if its loose until you get the filler neck off of it

the filler neck itself has an o-ring on the bottom of it. unless you know its there, you wont know. it doesnt look like anything after its worn out. the bolts that attach the neck to the flange dont need to be super tight. the oring will do all the work..

it also seems youre missing the metal brace that goes on top of the filler neck so the bolt heads dont dig into the plastic.

to get the best assesment, youll need to take everything apart and clean it all THOROUGHLY, then run it again and watch where it leaks from. right now, youre just kind of guessing. its also possible the filler neck is slightly misaligned. it doesnt locate on the flange at all so you pretty much have to eyeball it.

thanks for your help. It’s not near the oil filter pedestal but I’ll check the O-rings there while I’m at it. Cheers

mate, thanks for this. I’ll get some tools when I get paid and check it out. I’ll be sure to let everyone know what the problem was once I fix it. Thanks for your help and advice.
