a) you rebuilt your engine, 1st time?
b) you did a bridge port as your first port job?
c) the engine was "popping" before and now won't start?
d) you have "100%" compression, whatever that means
get some actual numbers for compression and then we might be able to help you. the popping(backfiring) could have been an indicator of an internal engine issue, which is why a compression test after you ran it for a bit and now no longer starts could pinpoint your issue. a fresh engine will likely start and run until the seals all get worn down and the engine loses compression. a bridge is not a novice port job, so maybe i am assuming too far ahead.
the FD engine management system is fairly straightforward and one of the more foolproof systems to get wrong, ie it shouldn't be backfiring unless you have a standalone with a fucked up map installed or did something a little simpler like mixed up the crank triggers home and reference. white goes toward the top, grey towards where your A/C compressor would be.
