I am wondering if any one knows if there is an advantage/risk to using non-oxygenated fuel. one of the stations around here offers 92 octane non-ox. would I risk causing damage to the engine if I used it?

 

Wow you can find non-oxygenated fuel? I can't find any that isn't 10% alcohol or whatever.

Oxygenated fuel basically has MTBE or other chemicals added to it so that there's oxygen in the fuel. It's a very poorly concieved emissions reduction scheme - in theory emissions are caused by running too rich, so by adding oxygen to the fuel the cars will run leaner. (Do you really want this in a turbo rotary??? I assume you have a turbo 'cos you're looking at 92 octane) In actuality the vast vast majority of cars on the road have feedback EFI so all oxygenated fuel does is make MPG worse because the computer compensates for it.

 

I have an FD with a recently rebuilt engine, so I take it running the non-ox woudl be better? it says there "for small engines, SUVs, classic cars"..etc. at the gas station. So I'll start using it then.
