no trailing spark at all rev and loads
I have a series III rx7 12a. I have no trailing spark at all, leading spark is fine. I know the trailing spark is surpposed to engage when engine is under a load or choke is applied and when in 4th or 5th gear. But I'm getting no sparks at any of these events. Swapped trailing coil over with leading coil the trailing coil works, so both of the coils are operative, leads are fine and plugs as well, cleaned electric dissy contacts set timing but could only set leading timing of course. Its really starting to frustrate me. If anyone has any ideas or fixes would be highly appreciated.

rotorbloop82,,
Sounds like you got a dead trailing ignitor. These are located on your distributor base, there are 2 of them, small square boxes with 2 wires connected held on with 2 screws. 1 is for leading and 1 is for trailing.
Do a search about how to trouble shoot an ignitor, then figure out which one is the trailing (I don't remember) and check the ignitor. More than likely it's dead and needs to be replaced. There is no way to fix it at home.
Hope this helps ya,,

hey Rob , maybe help me with some info. I changed the ignitor pick up coil module inside the distributor but now I have slight backfiring little poof sounds , and after constant driving when I stop the car idols real slow like it's gonna die but if I wait it out after about 45 seconds the car straightens it's self out and picks up idol on it's own and seams fine . Before the pickup coil change I had backfiring only on decelleratation so I would put the car in nuetral when I knew I was needeing to slow down and did not down shift because of it.It's not a real loud backfire just slight. now it's upshift third to 4th if im on it.
any help would be great
