Newbie help!
Hello,
I just picked up my 1st RX-7 ever for an autoX and weekend car. I was told the motor is bad maybe an "Apex" seal so a new engine/rebuilt is needed. When I towed her home, I pulled the oil stick and it had a gasoline smell. Any insite from the rotary gurus?
The car is a '88 Turbo with something about being a 10th aniversery edition.
Thanks!

if an apex seal is bad it could be leaking gasoline into the oil filter or hoses. you may want to get that car really checked out before dropping too much money into it. it may need serious fixin before you start modding it.

Get a re-build, you have no Idea what this guy could have done to that car and if he "thinks" it has a bad apex seal then there could be even worse things wrong with it. But if you don't want it rebuilt you could take it to someone that knows about rotarys and ask him to look at it or tear it down and make sure its still useable.
with these things you can never be to careful on espcially a turbo car. Hell if one of the Apex seals let go the turbo might be junk too.

The main part of my question was the gas smell in the oil. I thought it could be flooded and wondered what else would cause the same.
