newbie fuel question

hey guys, even though i have owned my 7 for close to 4years now (somehow i got it in the devorce and it was her car to begin with lol) well its an 84gs thats way stock , body looks like crap, interior is in great shape (specially now that i finally found a car in a junkyard with door panels that had been recently reapolstered , picked em up for 10bucks WOO HOO lol) anyways what kind of fuel pressure should it be running at? the main reason i ask is because well since the factory pump crapped out finally i picked up an aftermarket one at napa but it seems like it may be puting out more fuel that the original one (dont have to use the choke hardly at all in the morning to start it) but yet at the same time it seems as though i have lost some responce time at take off.. (course not that i had much since its an automatic (yuck) although for an auto, it can still hit 100mph with out any problems

thanks in advance

Ok I fed that through the to-lazy-to-type-clearly to english translator and I think that in upgrading your fuel pump you may have ended up making the car run rich. There are three things that you have to do:

1. Check your fuel pressure. The new pump may need to be regulated or dialed down to provide the lower pressure that a carbureted engine needs. I think its around 6-10 psi, not sure though.

2. Check your fuel filter. I'd even wager that a dirty filter was the initial problem and killed your fuel pump.

3. Adjust your carburetor. You may end up just having to lean the mixture out a tad, especially at idle. Check the first-gen FAQ for info on how to do this.

i believe the stock pumps were like 2-4psi. ur after market pump may be atleast 6 which is perfect for a holley kit from RB. i agree with previous post, it wouldn't hurt to replace the filter. probably wouldn't hurt to check float level.
