Hey all

I'm 17 and from New Zealand.

I've been interested in rotarys for a few years now, i go to the drags and watch them all the time and have become very interested in them.

I know next to nothing about them though, i have owned 3 Mazda 323's but didn't modify any of them as i was just waiting until i had some cash before i attempted to do anything to it.

Now that i'm working full time i will have money each week to either save up on for a project or buy a complete car.

I was thinking somewhere along the lines of an RX3 or RX7 for about $NZ20,000, ($US10,000) that would take less than a year to save up so i have a long time to research and learn about engines and doing my own engine conversions?

But i'm nowhere near up to the stage of learning about engine conversions or anything complicated, i just want to learn about the engine, things like the parts needed for a rotary (preferable a 13B which is within price range).

The types of engines, because i've heard of engines like 13BT, 13B J Port, Tall port...etc....so if anyone has links or knows about everytype of rotary engine, i read about the 20B faqs on these forums and that taught me the type of things i would like to know.

It's not only the engines that i would like to know about it's the entire car, inside and out of RX3's and RX7's.

Also statistics like i've heard people say "it's boost 17 pound or something", all those types of things.

So if anyone has links or information to help me more understand these beautiful machines that would be greatly appreciated

Thanks, Jay.

Jay, a very good site to get some information about how the rotary motor works is www.howstuffworks.com.

Great detailed information about the rotary motor. www.yawpower.com

Also www.mazadatrix.com for the different ports & stuff.

Have Fun ; )

Thanks man

The howstuffworks site is exactly what i've been looking for, i've been reading up on it for the last 3 hours and i've learnt more about cars than i ever have in my entire life.

I'll be sure to check the other sites when i've finished reading up on this one.

Cheers

i've had both rx3's and 4's. i like the 3 better, much lighter. the car i currently drive now is a '75 808 which is the same body as the rx3 but has a 4 cylinder engine. i change mine to rotary. the rx3 is a 12a car like the sa and fb non-se rx7's. a 13b, which is in mine, will fit with slight modification to the front engine mount. i think parts for rx7's are easier to come by than the old school rotaries are.
