New Guy needs 13B Help
Long story short I got a sand rail from my dad who hasn't had time to get it running. The rail had a Subaru motor in it and he was going to switch to a 13B turbo motor in it. Well long story short hes older and now I'm trying to finish it for him.
Anyways I need some help. I'm trying to just figure out some basic stuff so I can start ordering parts. Can anyone tell me what year motor this is? Its was built but who knows what is done to it. I know it's not studded as it has bolts in the back holding it together. How much power can you make on the turbo that's on it. Looks stock to me? I will be going e85 and pre mix What size Injectors should I get and what fuel rails? What ECU? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...eac1e11d05.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b43c17c2be.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...18cb27e1ac.jpghttps://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...641853db85.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9c25b89880.jpg Any other info you guys can give me would be great Thanks Brent |
welcome to the board, Brent. :)
the only thing i can see from the photos that might be suspect are the rotor housings. it looks like you may have a mix of S4 and S5, which is not ideal - possibly detrimental. there's really no point discussing power limit, with or without E85, until this is confirmed/addressed. other than that, t just looks like a Gen 2 Turbo block. i'm not savvy enough to visually distinguish between S4 and S5 side housings without the engine apart, so i can't get more specific. maybe someone else can. water pump would suggest an S5 engine, but it's no guarantee given the mismatched rotor housings. that said, research on your turbo question can start here: 1. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...k-turbo-88589/ 2. https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-d...-turbo-731841/ |

I'm trying to learn. Right now I just need to get the motor installed. Need to fab up some motor mounts to get it in the chassis. Is there any difference in fuel rail setups on the different year 13b? |

everything except the injectors themselves are exactly the same. |

Those rotor housings should not be used together in the same engine. The rear iron is S4.

and this difference is that one uses low imp injectors and the other high imp? or is there more to it?
my understanding of it is as follows (someone please correct me if i am wrong) 1986-87 - low impedance with standard Bosch connectors (the square ones, i think they are designated EV1) 1989-92 - high impedance with standard Denso connectors 1988 - had the standard Bosch EV1, but depending on build date, you can have low impedance or high impedance |

The S4 rear iron has two threaded holes for the upper inspection cover. He shows where it was rotated slightly, revealing the "tell". You see, the S5 needed clearance right there for the VDI type of intake manifold because it is more bulky there than S4. So they eliminated that hole. Cosmo and FD rears also lack that hole.

Looks like you have a mix of s4 and s5 parts, particularly the rotor housings. They have different spark plug spacing, which will affect the timing. I would not run that motor as is.
|
Thank you all. I see they are different as for spark plug spacing. Dont know why a rotary shop would build it this way. Well I guess I will get the engine in and then pull the engine apart and fix it. It's a fresh build so it shouldn't be to big of a deal unless they messed something up internal

i thought only s4 usdm n/a housings have the spark plug holes closer together...?
