Need Truth!! Mechanic's theory not enough for me!!!

Ok, i don't own a '94 RX-7 it's my friend's i own a 300ZXTT. Just read please. My friend's RX-7 is in the shop right now and i asked the mechanic how it was lookin' and he told me he'll probly want a new car cuz he just replaced the transmission(the kid) and now the mechanic says it 's leaking antifreeze into the turbo. Is this just B.S. or is there truth there? All's we've noticed lately is that for some reason it runs 5 psi boost only and it has 90,000 miles on original motor. It is all stock except for a down pipe. Every car is different i know but i've never heard of this anywhere with a 300ZX. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Rx7's do have coolant running through the turbos. So it is possible that its leaking coolant in or onto the turbos. When you take off the transmission on a 94 Rx7, you have to take off the downpipe too, and with the transmission off, you have a real good view of the turbos. Sounds like the mechanic saw the leak while he had the tranny off and he's just letting you know.

Nik,
Get the car out of that shop..The mechanic doesn't know what he is talking about therefore what he is doing. Go to the part of the forum here that has your state and ask the guys where there is a good rotary shop in your area....

he never had the tranny off when he "saw" this!!

he had the tranny replaced awhile bak by the guy and now he is checking things out w/the turbo and motor. he never pulled the tranny that i know of, he's just checking things out probly removing what ever else stuff is in the way top/bottom to see. I dunno, but he told me that antifreeze is leaking INTO the turbo, not on the turbo, INTO the turbo and one of the rotor's is burning oil, and the car has been smokin' out the bak whitish-blue for awhile but anyone could just say that, it's just like saying 'one of your pistons is burnin' some oil' if a pistoned motor was doin' it. i think he is an idiot from my past experience with taking my '90 300 TT into him ONCE ONLY. and it came bak with a big backfire from cheap gas!!! duh! whatever, anyway anymore help is much appreciated. thanx.

has you're friend been loosing coolant? if not then the mech is full of ****. also both rotors are burning oil, that's how a rotary is. i wouldn't let him "fix" anything, take it home and pull off the turbos and check them and if they look fine but you are loosing coolant then you need to rebuild the motor. unless of course there is a leak somewhere else.

It isn't really possible to leak coolant into the intake or exhaust system from the turbos. If that was the case, you would have more than one problem. A coolant leak, and the turbo came apart. It is quite possible to be leaking coolant from the turbo area (the rubber feed hose in particular), but it won't be leaking into the intake or exhaust and it shouldn't affect how much boost you make.

It's quite possible that we have a "telephone game" thing going on, though. If you asked "why does it only make 5 psi" would he say it was the coolant leak? Could he mean that there is a coolant leak in the turbo area? I don't doubt that he is incompetent, but it is possible (but not likely) that it is more of a communication problem than a problem with his diagnosis.
