Question Need help wit carb tuning

I was thinking about buying a car from a guy, and he said that the car had a carburetor on it and the jets in it were made for a v8. What should I do to correct this, change the jets? or could i plug one of them up ? I need help.

Well, what kind of carb is it? Is it a V8 carb, or a Mazda somehow with jets from a V8 carb? Most all carbs are made to meter fuel at somewhere around 13:1 to 20:1, so as long as the jets are made for that carb, and the mixture and air supply is acceptable for that engine, it should work. What this guy says doesn't make a lot of sense, because in the past there have been carburated V8s that got 30 mpg, and were jetted very lean, and ones that dripped fuel out the muffler. i.e. An engine with more displacement doesn't need bigger jets, it needs more fuel AND air.

This is my first post but when it comes to carbs, especially holley Carb's I am no stranger. I currently run one on my RX-4 with a turbo set up. My "size" if you can call it that is a 600 CFM. Runs good and strong. I have never heard of "V8" jets. There are jets that may work better for the V8 engines but not specified to those kind of engines. Jets are like fuel injecters, the higher the number, the bigger the jet is and the more fuel they push into the engine, depending on fuel system set up and so on. What you can do is purchase a holley jet kit for about $50.00. They have a bunch of jets that you can choose from and tune from there. Find out what jest are in the carb right now and start with those. See how the car runs and tune from there. It is a vague discription but message me if you need more specifics....hope this helps.
