Need help on removing exhaust port sleeves
I blew up my 1990 13b turbo engine while running lean under full boost. The rear rotor housing got scraped up badly, so I need a replacement. I've got a perfect housing out of an '89 - '92 NA that I want to use as a replacement. My problem is the exhaust port sleeves are different between the turbo and NA housings. I was thinking I could swap the sleeves by drilling out the roll pins that hold them in on the sides. My question is, Can I swap the sleeves? And is drilling out the roll pins the proper way to remove them? Or is there another way to remove the sleeves?
Please help, I'd like to get my car back on the road ASAP, without buying a new housing if I can get away with it. Thanx, Machija

I freeze the housing and use a slide hammer with a small machine screw. clean the roll pin and hole really well otherwise the carbon will keep it from coming out.

I just got a newer engine from a really intelligent car guy/racer...anywho, he pulled out the exaust sleeves on the engine he sold me. Do you even need them? And if so, anyone have any for a 86-89 6 port (going in my first gen)

So, I'm going to resurrect this thread. Its SOMEWHAT RECENT.
I've been trying this for a while now... and it seems that the roll pins always strip out whatever screw I try to thread in there... I want to exhaust this option first as it seems like the best way.. Next I'll try the weld method.. but I hate the idea of welding anywhere near my brand-new housings.
Any ideas as to why my screws keep stripping out? Am I rotarded?
