That's the rollover valve. It prevents the fuel tank from draining out of the vapor line in the event the car is flipped upside down.

The part in the first pic is a fuel pump. That used to be the generic fuel pump you could buy at auto parts stores. I called them rattleboxes because they were shaped like boxes, and they rattle.
I still think they are more reliable than the spinny pumps you can buy today.
