My T2 is pissing me off.

the damn thing still wont start. it just turns over and over without even trying to fire off and run. the engine is getting fuel, its getting spark, what else could it be? i thought it was the air flow meter, swapped it but no good. thought it could be resistor for fuel injectors, removed it, still nothing. thought it was timing, set CAS right but nothing happened. i have no clue why it wont work. im fresh out o ideas to try. somebody, anybody just gimme ideas to go on. anything i dont care, just something.

im finishing up on my motor swap. 89 jap-spec into 87 T2. it wont start period. it has everything connected that should be connected, i think. thats the problem, i dont know if im overlooking something. there are a few electrical plugs lefty disconnected, but i think they go to emmisions equpiment and i have all of that stuf pulled off the car. i cant think of why it wont start. everything looks good to go. i know its getting fuel because i already fouled one set of plugs. i took the set i have in the car now out and they were covered in fuel. what am i missing? what did i not hook up right?

How do you know you are getting spark? Have you pulled the plugs and turned the key to look for spark? Chaeck the back of the engine block. There needs to be a ground from a bolt on the block to the firewall. This is the ground for the spark in the combustion chamber! Mine had spark, fuel, and crank, but I needed to replace that wire in order to get it to start! Also, are you flooded?

i checked spark by pulling the plugs and and grounding them against the intrcooler then turning the motor over. all 4 showed spark. not sure if its grounded like you say though. have to check that. i dont think its flooded now. i try pulling the fuel pump relay to unflood it then putting it back and trying again, but nothing.

How many miles does it have on it? I had the same problem with my T2 a while back. Let me guess, it cranks but won't go. You'll get it running, stop somewhere for a brief few minutes, get back in your car and it won't go again.

Been there done that...

Well, what I am about to tell you won't make you happy. Your engine is toast. It has no compression. Sounds like it's time for a new motor to me.

That's what mine did.

Fully charge the battery. Get a timing lite if you dont have one. Have some one crank the engine with all the plugs out. Is the timing on the mark????????? If the timing is on the mark, make a fuel cut switch. Your flooding out big time. I have no idea why but that condition will screw up a brand new set of plugs. I'd buy me two lead plugs and put them in after making a fuel cut sw. Screw the trail plugs. Want more ideas or want to just go with those?????

HHHHmmm mine did that too and it turned out to be my TID. It had a crack on the bend of the hose that i couldn't see. Once i replaced the TID the car ran like a champ. You could be getting air in after the MAF and this would also cause the car to crank, but not quite start. Check the I/C hoses, all of them, and the vacuum hoses. especially the one going to the Boost sensor.

Do you have the 12v on one wire of each injector? Do you have the 2-3 ohm injectors in the car or the 12ohm injectors? Have you taken a meter and rung the wires out from the solenoid resistor to the ECU. Have you asked yourself what I just asked myself i.e. how in the world do you have gas on the plugs and the injectors not working??????????????????????????????????????????? ???

i dont know how there was fuel on the plugs if my injectors arent working. i want to say that there may be a short in the wiring harness somewhere. or maybe the injectors are bad and are only working sometimes. i dont really know but im gonna try and find out today.

good news first. my car finnaly started.(WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!) now for bad news. it wont hold an idle. here is what i did to get it to start. thinking my primary injectors were locked, i swapped the secondary injectors into the primary fuel rail. i had a pair of 720cc injectors laying around so i put those in the secondary rail. i have an AFC to tune them with. i turned the car over and it fired off and popped a massive ground scorching fireball, and then promptly died. it repeated the process of starting, popping fire, and then dieing several times. only if i kept my foot on the gas pedal would it keep running. the car is running ungodly rich as evidenced by the fireballs and fuel smoke from the tailpipes. i know that isnt helping the car idle. but i think i have some vaccum leaks too. i would still be working on the car but my neighbor came over and told me to be quiet. with no cats and a catback on the car, it CANT be quiet, butoh well. ill finish it off tommorow. thanks for all you guys that gave me ideas, they helped me out alot. i think that the only thing left are vaccum leaks and timing issues now. again thanks for all your help.
