I think he's referring to the Cosmo engine people have bought from Japan used. Correct? If so, that page is just talking about the differences in 2nd and 3 rd gen motors. I think he wants to know the difference in the cosmo RE and the REW of the 3rd gen.

Hopefully he'll clarify his post a little.

Tim

Bump!

Yea, I have been looking for the answer to this question too. What is the difference between the FD3S 13b REW (I think the 13btt is the same but US spec)and the Cosmo 13B RE??? People just say to look at other threads, but I been lookin for a long time and cant find much! Other than the RE has bigger intake manifolds and bigger intake ports, but smaller exhaust ports and turbos. Also the motor mounts are diffrent. and less HP stock. also a different wire loom and cheaper price! (all found on here), I was also wondering what it would take to put it in? as far as mount fabrication, and wiriing it up?

Instead of links why not just tell the answer?
RE = Rotary Engine
REW = Rotary Engine Wankle
Ports are located in different locatsions.

I can make up stuff too, that doesnt mean it is true.

To simplify...

Engine Code:13B-REW
Chassis Available: FD3S RX-7
Years Utilized: 1992-2002
-------------------------------------
Twin Hitachi HT-12 turbos
Larger primary ports(sid housings) than RE, slightly, secondary ports(intermediate) are same.
Thickest dowel pin castings front and rear of any 13B
Multi-window bearings front and rear
110psi oil regulator
Extra bolt hole for front cover
More accurate CAS (direct trigger)
Free flowing exhaust port sleeves
Larger front cover oil line outlet
Poorly balanced rear intake runner design due too space constraints (up to 20% differance in flow)

Engine Code:13B-RE
Chassis Available: Cosmo
Years Utilized: 1989-1995
-------------------------------------
Larger, more-balanced intake runners
non-window bearings
70psi oil pressure reg
thinner dowel pin castings
More restrictive exhaust sleeves
Twin Hitachi HT-10 turbines
smaller oil line outet on front cover

The 20B is equiped with a sequential system that matches that of the RE and REW, however; one HT-10(prime) and one HT-15(sec) turbines are matted together. I've been dancing on the idea of using these and the RE intake on my FD, sadly it is not long for my ownership so my dreams shall be put on hold.

They are just abbrevations. As far as I know, they have differnt port locations. Oh well. I guess there is something I learned.
