Major problems!!

So i just bought a 88 rx non turbo for 500..the body is not in too bad of condition but the reason i am writing is because i am having a few problems.......they guy i bought it from told me that he drove the car untill the empty light was on and then filled up drove a mile or two and then the car died...the engine only had about 10,000K on it and was recently installed by himself....he told me that he gave up on fixing the problem...so here i am....i first stated to try to turn the engine over and nothing happend...by the way the starter was hard wired to the engine and would start buy pushing a switch inside the car and the ingition put on on.....so i took the starter motor out to do some checks,,upon doing so i realized he had used like 10guage wires..crazyness...so i did the check and the starter is working but i want to put it in properly(running off the ignition) i bought a manual and have trouble finding much on the wiring for it.....i found two thick black wires in the area that run the the possitive and negitive on the batery...so i hucked them up and the starter turned over all by itself with the ignition tured off.......i need some advice on how to run the wires properly(i think the harness has been tampered with)...so that the first problem...the second is......when i crack the motor over with the ignition on i have spark but poor fuel delivery..so i think i need a new pump..but i tried to spray some WD40 in the intake manifold to get a response and nothing..the motor just turns but does not sound like its trying to start ............any ideas on were to start looking?
