Any suggestions

HI just traded my 93 honda del sol s, for a 1989 mazda rx7 Gtu love the car. im having a problem with what i hear is called limp mode the car idles fine and will take off fine as long as i dont put my foot into it, if i just get in it and put it to the floor i get all the way through first gear and up to about 5-7000rpms in 2 and then the check engine light comes on. the guy i got the car off of said that he had it tested and they told him it was the oil meter pump sensor, does this sound right has anyone else had this problem and maybe a few other things that would make it do this. feedback would be great im really interesting in seeing what this car will do out on the road with full power
