Losin my mind w/ this stupid FD!
just got my 1993 FD last week. i've made a post about this already and it's since disappeared. i seem to be having a fuel delivery problem and i don't know where to start. The car used to have a SAFC and PowerFC. when i had the SAFC the car would run fine one day, and then the next i could bearly get the car over 80mph, granted I could even get it going that fast. Sometimes it would go from retareded to normal in the middle of a drive. The engine runs like crap when i give it gas like its starving for fuel and it back fires like whoa. when I let off the gas the RPMs drop to around 500 and climb back to 875 or so for idle. It hesitates as well when i first give it gas. the problem doesn't occur at any certain RPM, just when there is a load on the engine. The day I removed the SAFC (no point since the PowerFC is installed as well), the car went back into retarded mode and won't go back to it's normal self. There were no programmed maps in either the PFC or SAFC, i had initialized both before removal and the car ran fine with that. I have already checked the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, and changed the fuel filter. Something that seemed to make a difference was adjusting the boost on my AVC-R. Actually turning it down quite a bit made all the difference. Stangely enough, my boost controlled doesn't change a damn thing now either, not even the boost since i removed the SAFC. I even tried re-installing it right after i removed it and it didn't change anything. So lost with this car..

An intermittent problem like this I would bet is a short/broken wire somewhere. Very carefully inspect the wiring where the SAFC was spliced in and make sure there is nothing fishy going on.

Have you checked your fuel pressure at idle and WOT? That would tell you if you have a bad FPR, or maybe if your fuel pump is dying. Anyway, best of luck!
i was thinking the same thing, maybe i'll pull it apart in the morning. its a nest in there!
checked all connections.. everything seems in order. any other ideas? speaking of wiring my radio sometimes turns off and comes back on when i press the brake pedal. i highly doubt they are related but maybe?
i took it to a rotary specialist yesterday and he says that since i unhooked the SAFC it put the engine waaay the hell outta tune. still doesn't make much sense to me since the map i put in my PFC didn't make a difference at all, but he's the man so i'll listen to him
