Little Smokey

Yes I have an 83 RX7 I got it cause I thought it was a neat car.Now that my Trans Am is down the Maxda has become my daily driver. The problem I have every once in a while I will mash the gas to the floor and the blue smoke just comes a pouring out. Also almost everytime I start it so I don't know if this means the metering pump is going out or what this rotary is new to me that is part of the reason I got the car to see what makes the rotary work. Thanks

The engine has about 40,000 since it was completly rebuit said PO

Thumbs up

a little smokey.....well on an older rotary(engine with some decent miles on it) it is not uncommon for them to puff a little on the initial start-up....if you are burning or puffing at operating temp. i would do a compresion test s.t.a.t.....pay a little more attention to the rear section (rotor housing)....for some reason the rear section is more prone to problems.......usually compression is checked with a digital comp. tester. (so you can accurately test all three "compression strokes")..but if you watch the gauge style close enough you can see what's goin on (even down to what apex seal is giving you grief)...if your compression is fine, check your oil (colour, texture, smell etc.) this will give another indication as to what is going on...are you even using oil? if so how much?...does the car bog?...what colour is the smoke?...could it be fuel problem??....how is you initial start-up.....hard to diagnose to many variables..need more info.....but i would to a comp. test first ...when you find out post it.....what colour are your plugs...a compression test will tell you a hell of a lot of what is goin on...the closer you keep on these things the more money it can potentially save you...trust me....experience has already costed me a few bucks before... hell right now i'm having kind of a fuel problem i'm having a bitch of a time trying to figure out...but also buy a good manual and memorize it....if you can understand it there isn't to that time and basic info can't solve.....good luck
