I'm in the process of having an '88 6 port 13B swapped into my MG Midget. I had a 12A with a carb in it before that fit in just fine. The 13B's TB unfortunately sits about 3" above the hood. Right now I plan on just putting on a scoop for clearance.

However I do like the idea of putting a MegaSquirt on the car. Is there an intake and TB I could use that wouldn't be any taller than a 12A with a carb?

What else would I need to replace? I have a complete '88 FC for parts. Could I use my current injectors, ignition, sensors, etc?

 

there are such things as a cheap ITB set ups... but this has been discussed many times on here. if you dont feel like searching, then you can PM me. im sure people are getting tired of seeing the same threads...

thats a webber, wich is carbed. ITB is individual throttle body. wich refers to fuel injection. and a correctly done webber set up will cost you about 700 or more when converting from efi.

but it looks like you already have a carbed motor, so if i were you i would search away for a nice webber set up on here and ebay. you can get idntical style carbs from Mikuni and delorto, but having them rebuilt and tuned will much harder. Webber is the way to go. wether it be "true" side draft, downdraft, or a wrap around side draft manifold, webbers always are a good choice.

 

I'm not using that 12A anymore. I'm putting in a rebuilt and street ported 13B which has the Mazda EFI on it.

 

I am well aware of the differences between carb and EFI. I showed him the picture to let him know what a Lake City manifold is.

Weber is a great carb, if I had my choice I would go to OER. They are basically a racing equivalent of a Weber. Mikuni and Dell'Orto carb's work just as well, but are harder to find parts and kits for in the US (although not saying it is impossible; a buddy of mine has a dell 48DHLA on a stock 12a and runs MINT).

 

The 13b is further back? Did you use the same cross member from the 12a? The 13b should actually sit a few mm further ahead. This is all basing off of first gen knowledge.

Your frame rails look mighty close, I doubt you could use a Lake City manifold. It would seem you would be better off with a down-draft manifold and short Velocity stacks. Remember that you need atleast 1" of clearance to use the benefits of the stacks.

Worst case I will go for a Weber wrap around and a TWM TB. Using my current injectors. This would set me back ~$600 ($150 upper intake, $450 TB). I am wondering if I can get it cheaper. I'd like to see if I can get everything for around a grand (MS ECU + sensors will set me back ~$700).

I would go with Jeezus suggestion--Tweakit--or a FUJI ITB (a bit cheaper). You will also need an adapter manifold either a 90degree as pictured in your buddy's car or a 45 degree like I use. It will depend on the clearance you have and how you are going to deliver air to the velocity stacks. If your looking for and ECU for the setup, I have a reconditioned Haltech e6k that would work perfect in this rig. I'll sell it to you for $475.00.
