I have a 1976 13B engine that I am putting in a “kit car” that was originally designed, built, and shown at the 1992 SEMA Show by my students at Minnesota State University in the Automotive Engineering Technology program.




Now, in my retirement I am building my own and using a 1976 13B engine. I had used the engine in an autocross car in its stock condition, but now have had Chip’s Motorsports in Detroit rebuild it and do a street port job on it.

I am almost done with the project and now it is time to do the intake. I have a header and free flowing exhaust system and I'll be pre-mixing my fuel. The car will weigh about 1600 pounds and will be just street driven so the high horsepower and running at high RPM are not a priority. I just want a good, smooth-running engine. Also, it is only a summer car here in Minnesota so cold start is not a concern. My progress so far.............



I am considering your Holley kit and the Weber Kit. I like the Holley because I am familiar with those carbs, and it seems like you have worked out a good combination. However, I really like the looks (I know that is kind of stupid) of the Weber.

My question is can you set-up the Weber kit with the necessary modifications (jets/tubes, etc.) so it runs well right out of the box, or will I likely need to do some additional tuning to get it to work smoothly?

So, Weber or Holly, what is your recommendation? …………………Thanks, Kirk

that looks like a really cool little project car. 1600 pounds plus streetported 13B should make for tons of fun.
we like what we like. also, you're starting from scratch, so nothing stupid about it ....

honestly, i don't think you will go wrong with either one. i, personally, think the learning curve on the Weber is a little better, but Holleys are great too when the engine is happy.

for the record, i've never bought a Weber from RB (i'm assuming that's where you're looking), but i did get their Dell'Orto. in hindsight, i think it was pretty close to good, right out the box, but i did have to do tuning when i was ready to use it in earnest. aside from that, i think there is more help available on the forum for them as opposed to the Holleys. however, you said you have experience with Holleys, so that point is a bit moot.

i think if you want the Weber, give it a try.
