Exclamation ignition problem...i think..!! help

hey everyone. bought an 88 turbo 2 from my friend a while back and i am just now getting to work on it. i think there is an ignition problem i think but i'll tell you what is going on and see what you guys think. So when you put the key in the ignition. NOTHING happens at all.. when u have the bat. hooked up i have lights inside and outside the car but nothing at all will happen when the key is in or turned. so i needed to see if the engine would turn and check the compression so i wired a wire straight from the starter to the 12v+ on the bat. and it turn and everything is working very well... but my spark plugs arn't getting any spark at all...wich should be due to the ignition thing right? Is there any other way to get it to fire that i dont know about....fuses or sumthing that could make this happen? Why arn't i getting any spark? Please help. thanks

Just a suggestion, but you might want to have the key ignition checked. (where u insert the key.) Could it be an electrical problem behind your steering colum before u even get to the spark plugs?
