Exclamation i think im running on one rottor

ok im a week old virgin with rotary so take it easy if i ask a stupid question. car ran great its an a 89 turbo II stock engine with 20k miles from rebuild. the previous owner raced it in auto cross. he a older honest man. i have documentation that its a young motor. i sarted the car to go to work and while driveing the car just started losing power. its drive able but seems like its running on one rottor. i parked it cause i herd a ping like detonation. it scared me . it only pingged once. im scared of ping. ive been dring the car for a week. it smells i little like gas. cleaning the plugs seemed to help a little bit. the plugs i put in a week ago. It wants to biuld boost really easly. I need someone to set me in the right direction. and please explain in good detial. Cause i may not know the parts of the motor.

Talking

if it is running on one rotor it would be like a vibrator on steriods. Do you know what mods have been done to your car? If the boost build fast how high does it go? You may have a failed wastegate ...over boosting causes pinging.

easiest way to find out if its a bad engine , is to do a compression test. It'll save you alot of time and headache wondering what it is. Check the compression, then go from there; $0.02.

Good luck

The quick check is to listen carefully to the compression surges in the starter gear noise as you crank the engine.
Flooring the throttle while cranking cuts fuel on your S5 (for unflooding), so you can crank it long enough to hear any problems.

The compression surges should be exactly even in sets of 6.
Alternating strong & weak surges (RrRrRr) means one rotor is better than the other.
If two of the 6 are weak (RRrRrR), you have a bad apex seal.

Well The Only Mod I Got Are Suspention. Unless There Is Something On The Car I Dont Know About. It Does Seem Preety Fast But Im Sure Its Stock. I Was Getting In The Gas Pretty Good Before It Happened But It Was 5 In The Morning And About 50 Degrees. Its Now The Next Day And The Car Is Not Doing It As Bad But I Cant Push The Pedal To Far Or It Will Lose Power. It Still Biulds Boost Ok And Seems I Got A Little Vibration But Nothing I Think Is Engine Related. Its Mpre Like A Clutch Problem Ill Deal With That Later. Even Though I Have Young Plugs Im Gonna Change Em Any Way. By The Way What Is The Compression Suppose To Be

The stock compression can be as high as 95. Check your intercooler lines and start looking for vac leaks use rubber and get all the line changed immediatley or check your ground.

i just drove it and it seem to be getting better there are a few times that am getting all my power back but only til 4th gear it boggs in 5th. so bad making 5th gear not really useable. but it has gotten alot better all by itself. its making 6 lbs of boost. oh if its not much to ask i need to know were exactlly the plug wires go so i can just check them out not that there is any reason they should be but im going to replace plugs. I thought about the wires but they are the racing beat wires and i watched them all through a spark.

compresion is good and plugs are good still it boggs in 5th and likes to die. seems olso like a bad miss. Maybe from flooding. and fuel hungry super bad.
