hello, im new to the rotary scence. i am buying a 1993 rx7 in great shape 8000 miles on rebuild and 45000 on the chasis but body needs some paint. my question is how can i tell if its a r1, r2, fc, or fd??

that's an FD, gen 3 RX-7

 

so basically just because its an 93 its an FD

 

yep. '93 and later is FD. '86-92 is FC.

 

Depends were you live. In Japan FC's went up to 93 and FD's started at 91.

anywho you live in the USDM so here goes:
1st generation: 79-85
(SE, GSL-SE, GSL)
2nd generation: 86-91
Series IV: (base, sport, GXL, GTU, TurboII)
Series V: (GTU, GXL, GTUs, TurboII)
3rd generation: 93-95
(base, R1, R2, Touring)
correct me if I'm wrong.

 

i beleve it will say fc or fd or fb in the vin

 

Yep, for an FC it starts JM1FCXXXXX and for an FD JM1FDXXXXX
