hey, im new here...

hey everyone, first off i wanted to say hello.. anyways, I currently own a suped up CRX, but i am about to receive money from a lawsuit and buy an RX7... i've been an administrator for hondaswap.com for the past 6 months or so, and to tell you the truth, i dont know much about rotary's.. so i was wondering if you guys could fill me in with some questions that i have... first off, i have $23K for the RX7... that said, after i buy the car, what do i need to prevent the engine dying... (i've heard from a lot of people that RX7's go through engines pretty quickly)... i've heard that the Apex seals break, and that i need thicker seals.. chances are, im going to buy an RX7 with the stock turbo.. do the stock turbo's on RX7's last very long? what exactly would i need done to the engine to insure reliability? again, thanks for your help.... BTW, i read the thread about that guys car getting stolen from "Kelvin", and word about it is spreading so fast, that members from Hondaswap.com are talking about it... anyways, i'm glad to hear that the guy got his car back in decent shape...

What generation are you looking into buying??
If I had 23K I would go for a nice 3rd gen. If you are really worried about the reliability of the motor go get the car checked out at a good rotary shop in the area. You can get a great car for for a good price if you look hard enough. Even if the motor has problems, you can it rebuilt for anywhere from $1100 to as high as I have seen $3500 depending on how you get it rebuilt. And you would probably still have some $$$ left over to spend on mods.

yea i would be looking to buy a 3rd gen for sure... so the rebuild would consist of new apex seals, and what else? i was thinking 3 mm seals would do the trick... so i'd proble buy a Rx7 for around $16K, have motor rebuilt for $2k, and have $5k left for mods.... sounds good, tanks for the help..

my advice would be to take some time and do searches on everything you have a question about ...

the Gen III cars are a lot stronger than people (and rumors) give them credit for. just from the way you're asking about 3mm apex seals after saying that you know very little about Rx-7's suggests to me that you've probably been talking to all the "wrong" people ... and to me, i know it's not my money, but talking to the wrong people about an Rx-7 or any other car for that matter is the easiest way to see $23K disappear real fast and all you're left with is pretty Rx-7 body (if that much) and feeling of being the victim in rape scene ...

there are a lot of things to consider. what your plans for the car are, are going to be the major factors. and there are simply too many things for me to tell in one thread about the possibilities ... so just hold off from spending anything for now, do some good research (and this forum is on eof the best places i can think of for starters), and then budget your dough wisely ...

you say you want a Gen III, well, go look up what they're known problem areas are on their forum, but keep us posted here, in this one with your progress.

good luck
