Angry Help! transmission problem on 88 vert

Hi guys,

my tranny broke on me hrs ago while i'm on my way home..i was on 5th gear bout 60mph@2500rpm, downshifted (of coz to 4th gear) due to uphill..and suddenly it grinded n jammed (i mean the shifter) no gear was on..free rolled (almost hit by trucks damn). pullover to the shoulder, tried real hard to get it off from 4th gear (it was stucked) then i lost 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse..no choice to dark outside cant c anything, took off the shifter off (uh..fuking hot!) see nth and bolted it back..forced it home with 1st and 2nd gear bout (10miles).. Amazed, it doesn't overheat..

btw, on the day i got tat car, the 5th gear grinds when shift in except slow n smooth shift( i m saying SLOW..clucth pedal down and shifted slowly). I was told by the previous owner the sync messed up. i dunno..i dont use 5th gear most of the time.. hehe

gurus out there wat is the possible problem? where shud i start working on? i have a turbo tranny laying ard but w/o flywheel, clutch, clutch cylinder, starter, shifter, driveshaft, rear end, axle and etc so i guess it wasn't a good idea to swap..unless it worth the money..will it produced more hp or torque?

Thanks for your advise
cheers

I wouldn't worry about what happened inside the tranny, its not something for a novice to fix. Just find a used or rebuilt tranny and swap them out. Maybe swap your turbo tranny for one that fits your car.

I looked at an RX4 box I have laying around, they are very similar to the turbo boxes. Stuff doesn't interchange.

Just find the kind you have now, don't make any headaches for yourself trying to go from a turbo tranny to NA rearend etc.
