HELP!! Major smoke problems

I have a 88 Turbo 11 it is hard to start and when you rev it up it puts out major smoke. The smoke is more gray than blue. Can someone tell me what might be wrong?? I don't know much about rotary engines. Also how hard would it be to convert a non turbo engine to turbo? I have a good rebuilt non-turbo in a wreaked rx7 GXL.

Well, I had a similar problem on my GSL-SE.

Turns out the problem was the water temp sender.
I don't know if it's the same in a 2nd gen, but in a first gen, if the ecu doesn't get a signal from the WTS, it locks the fuel injectors open. Fuel just keeps dumping in.

In my case, the connector for the WTS had broken.
