Help!!!!! Long

Okay... I did a search concerning this subject, but I'm still at a loss so please bear with me. I know that alot of people have had trouble with this.

I got my new (to me) 88 T2 home last night! Woo Hoo!!!

When I bought it it was running great, the idle was around 750 and it felt quite strong. The previous owner told me that he had some minor starting problems but was always able to get it going with little effort.

Well, I got it home and 30 minutes after it had been parked (after an hour of driving) it wouldn't start.
So, after searching through some of the tech posts I came to the conclusion that it was either flooded (my roomate had been messing with it) or the timing was off.

I ran the de-flood procedures and it fired right up! Cool.
I let it warm up and after that I shut it down to check out the timing. I didn't have the light yet, so I pulled the CAS and made sure everything was aligned properly.
After reinstalling it I tried to start it up again, but with no luck.

I tried several times but all efforts resulted in failure. So, getting a wild hair up my rear I ran the de-flood checklist again. It started up and, even though it idled a bit low, seemed to doing fine.

Once it was warmed up again I revved the engine a bit and I noticed that the RPM's would drop really low and then raise up to about 500. I took it for a quick test drive and it died at the light. I got it restarted and back to the house..... and now it won't start at all. It sounds like it wants to catch, but no-go.

I'm really at a loss. Please... I would really appreciate any suggestions.
