Help with EGT gauge

Hi there. i need some help with some knowledge on my EGT gauge. I installed an EGT gauge in my turbo car. and i would like some input on how to read it. My gauge reads in Fahrenheit. It starts a 200 and goes to 1800 temp. When i drive on the freeway, it normally rides between 1200 and 1300 degrees. Does anyone know if i'm burning lean, what the temp would go up to to be safe? Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Daniel

Daniel,

where is the EGT sensor/thermocouple located? before or after the turbo.

while EGT gauges are helpful in answering specific questions they are not the best gauge to tell you if you are lean or rich. you need a wideband AFR system for that.

is your EGT sensor/thermocouple located before or after the turbo?

if that temp is after the turbo add around 200-350 degrees to get pre-turbo temps and you are fine. i generally tune for 1550 preturbo and run a couple of hundred less degrees cruising on the highway.
