HELP: Car didn't crank, now does but something's bouncing around

1986 GX

Ok, so a few weeks ago, I parked my car. I tried to start it a while ago, but it wouldn't crank. Power dropped, so obviously the starter was working, but it just wouldln't crank. Ok.

Today, I try again, with a brand new battery, and turns out the belts and fan move a little bit. I try again a couple times, and all of a sudden, it cranks. Except it won't start.

Tested spark, got spark. Did the flooding procedure, nothing. It sounds like it's cranking, with a couple half-catching noises (like it's almost going to start).

Here's the problem. I was standing there, thinking of what to do, and I heard a buzzing, kinda like a transformer, I guess, in my engine bay. I unplugged my + battery lead, and it stopped. When I plugged it back in, something went *pling, pling, pling-pling-pling* inside my engine. I did it a couple more times, just to make sure, and it repeated itself. It sounds like, when you hold a screw above a metal plate, and you drop it, and the screw bounces around a few times before coming to a stop. Oh the whole time, the key's been in the On position.

Help! I hope to hell it isn't an seal. Doubt it's a spark plug tip, as they were fine when I parked it.

This is really scaring me. Help!

Find out where the buzzing came from... "in the engine bay" is a bit vague.

Pull all 4 plugs, crank the motor and check for compression.

As for the "plink-plink" sound... You sure you didn't drop a tool into your engine bay while hooking up the battery?

I don't see how the sound would only turn on when I plug the battery in tho...When I standing at the side of the car (driver's) hooking up the battery, it's coming from the direction of the engine. There weren't any tools anywhere near the block, just the rad shroud.

Will pull plugs, as soon as I get a plug socket

K, just changed plugs, and the engine runs now

Turns out the clicking happens when I pull the Injection Fuse (the first one),only when the key is in the ON position, not when the key's in off. Sounds like it's coming from somewhere physically in the engine. I put my ear by the injectors, and it's coming from deeper then that, soooo.....

Motor runs fine, took about 10 minutes to get all the **** out of it, and it blew one HELL of a smoke show when it started :lol But other then that it's fine.

I just want to find out what this clicking is, in case it's something that I should fix soon. Thanks!

The buzz is the BAC vibrating. That is as normal as apple pie. Unplug the bac and the buzz will go away.

The turning the key to Start and the voltage dropping could just be the starter solenoid or a bad connection to the starter/battery. If it just clicks when held to Start.....then it's most likely the starter solenoid IF you KNOW the connections to the battery and the starter are on good and clean.
