HELP! 2nd gen keeps eating coils.
I have an '89 vert. It keeps eating the leading coil. I've put 3 used ones on it now. They last for about a month and then just go. Why would the coils repeatedly go bad like this??

This car is prone to flooding so for now I've done the band-aid fuel cutoff switch. But one thing I've noticed is that the coils have generally gotten toasted if I ground on the starter for any duration. As long as the car is starting quickly, the coils have lasted. Also, the car starts better if you let off the starter. You know, get the motor spinning til you hear combustion, then back off and let it catch. This works better as opposed to running the starter til the engine is off to a good start. Does that make sense. Only a split second difference that Im talking about.
