Replacing the LIM

I just had to do this about 3 weeks ago. Keep in mind when you take the LIM off you will have to replace the gasket. The short answer is no. You cannot get the dang thing off unless you take the turbo off. However this is quite easy. There are 4 - 14 mm bolts holding it down. Take off the downpipe first. This will make it easier. Then on the lim their are i think there are like 5 bolts and 2 nuts you have to take off. be sure to take off your UIM before you do this and unbolt the secondary fuel rail. Before you take the LIM off be sure to blow or vacuum off the engine top so that you dont drop any sediment inside the engine. Hope this helps.

Just curious why do you need to replace the LIM??

p.s. you will have to use...i would recommend anyway....jackstands to help you with the job. i beleive there is only 1 nut you can get off of the turbo flange when above the car. the rest will most likely need to be done from underneith. feel around under there and try to find them first. on the top of the turbo you have your oil input...just unbolt those 2 12mm bolts and keep it hanging their. also on top of the motor there is your coolant input...just take those 2 10mm nuts off and wait till you pull the turbo off to do anything with it. on the bottom side of the turbo you have the oil return. you will have to unbolt this and leave it hanging there too...its a hardline so it wont get hurt. and lastly you have the coolant return line...its a hose. undo the clamps and try to get it off. if it looks worn then cut it to save yourself the trouble and buy some new coolant hose the same size. after you have doen all of that you will be able to pull the turbo off...with a little effort and set it off to the side. then you can get at the bolts much easier on the LIM.

Please drain oil and coolant before you even start.

Hope I got everything right. Pulling from memory...

Anyway now i am trying to find out where all the vacume lines connect to i took them all off so i have no ida where they all go to. And i have alot of stuff torn off of the engine. I had to take off the lim because the shop i took it to torked the nut to tightly on top and it cracked my lim so now i try to do all my own work. Also what happens if i where to but synthetic oil into my engine right now i am using casteroil 20w-50 just the reg kind i guss.
