Has this ever happened to your car?
This is really weird. When i am driveing my car and i push the clutch in to change gears, and i let the tach drop down to idle(you know if you are useing the brakes and dont want to heal/toe)it will go all the way to the bottom. almost to the point where i can feal the engine want to stall out. but it always recovers and pops up to the normal 700 rpms. unless i use the ac, then it stalls. But this still is not the weirdest thing that has hapened. if i go and park the car and sit in my seat with the clutch in and no gas the tach will move. it will bounce up and down a hundred rpms or so. also i noticed that the oil pressure drops below zero, then it will shoot up a few psi then slowly drop back to zero, then shoot up agen. i dont really notice a corraspondence with the tach. I first noticed this happening a few days ago when i was comeing back from the drag strip(no i diddnt run). I would say it is about a 35-40 mile ride. I dont know if that has anything to do with it. Oh by the way my car is a 84 GSL-SE.
If any of you guys have had any problems with this kind of stuff before please let me know. it does not really afect my driveing that much, it is just annoying.

I've had mine bounce on me..
but the weirdest thing that it has done to me. Is a while back, when I popped it into neutral to coast to a stop, the rpms stayed at about 2000 rpms, until I came to a complete stop, when it then wen't down to 700. This happened for quite a while, too. It doesn't anymore, I don't know why.

I have the same problem with the idle , but only when coming out of reverse! The rev's will shoot down to maybe 300-400 then will recover and go up the normal the 700. No idea whats causing it. Also have the same prob with the bouncing idle.
Any fixes would be appreciated ! BTW '87 rx-7 N/A

NOW THE TACH STAYS IN THE RIGHT PLACE WITH MINIMAL MOVEMENT BUT THE FU@KING OIL PRESSURE GAGE JUST SITS AT FAR LEFT OF THE DIAL. The smae place where it sits when the car is off. If i nudge the engine a grand or so it will bounce back up to the right spot. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant anyone here help me?

My car also did the "pulsating" thing for a while, but it suddenly stopped all of it's own accord. It did stop after I "fixed" the other problem, so maybe that oil worked it's way into the right places.
Anyway, throttle problem troubleshooting tip #1: always check the linkage first. And for those not currently having throttle gremlins, a couple minutes with the oil can in the linkage is a small price to pay to keep them away. And it would probably be worth investigating for 84-GSLSE as well.

Have you checked the oil pressure sender? Since you get oil pressure when you rev it up, wonder if the sensor is just being flaky. To help battle some of the "bounce" I’ve put a couple of small hose clamps on the hose to the air supply valve, just to insure it wasn’t leaking. Since it also helps control the idle.

The idle bounce could be caused by your tps, it might be on the verge of being out of whack... There are a few ways that you can adjust it, just do a search on the forum.
As for the oil preasure, do you have oil ? what grade of oil are you using?, sometimes parts do go bad. maybe the sender is dead. You might be better of just replacing it with an an aftermarket guage, that way you will know what your preasure really is.

Probable cause of bouncing idle
I have an '84 SE also and had the bouncing idle problem years ago. Irritating, isn't it? Although you mentioned it is no longer doing it, I thought I would answer for next time and for Bigmike. After checking the usual suspects like the TPS, I found the cause (at least in my case) and it's an easy fix. Clean around the throttle plates: if you remove the air duct at the throttle body and look in, you will see 3 round plates, almost blocking the passages at idle. You will probably also see some residue around the edges of the plates, reducing the airflow at idle but having no ill effect once you get on the gas. Just use carb cleaner on a rag to clean around the area while holding the throttle open. I also use 8" Q-tips which help. 15 min. and your done. At least it worked for me (also on my Subaru and a friends Suburban when they had a bouncing idle). In your case, I imagine a bit of the dirt got sucked away, solving the problem (for now).
As to the oil pressure: I've heard from a few sources that the senders are not great. Mine has read very low for about 10 years but has always been normal when checked with a hand gauge. As it reads normal when you blip the throttle, I wouldn't worry about it but it's worth having the pressure checked for peace of mind.
