Green A/C Refrigerant!

Hi all,

Whilst trying to diagnose another issue with my FD's everlasting bad idle I noticed that the viewing glass on my AC dryer was not the typical green colour. It appears that the level has dropped. I've just been looking into AC refrigerants and from what I can tell the colour is not meant to be green. It suspiciously matches my coolant colour perfectly. Has anybody come across coloured refrigerant before? From what I have read it should be colourless.

Just as a note the cold from AC seems fine.

Thanks in advance.

Normally refrigerant is a colorless and clear and will be in gas or liquid state, depending on the pressure & temperature it is at. The color you see in the sight glass is the color of the lubricant that is suspended in the refrigerant to lube the compressor. Often times if the AC system ever opened up & serviced, they will add a small amount of dye to the refrigerant which is typically that bright florescent green, similar to coolant color - makes it easier to spot leaks in the future with a black light.
