Question Good resource that explains port timing and ignition timing

I did a couple of searches both here and at rx8club with no good result. I'm looking for a good (if possible, illustrated) explanation of both port timing and ignition timing. I'm still somewhat confused as to how you measure degrees and from what point. I've been to rotaryengineillustrated.com, and they go into it briefly, but I was looking for more detail. Thanks,

Alan
