Everything you're looking for is in the Factory Service Manual ... you can find it online at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com ... which doesn't appear to be working at this current moment. You could also just go buy it.

OK. I am going to use a big mac analogy. Think of the rotary engine as a big mac. Let the top of the big mac be the front of the engine. The top of the bun would be the front side housing, the middle bun the intermediate side housing and the bottom bun the rear side housing.

Stick with me here...

Now the two patties (beef? you be the judge here) are going to be your rotors. The empty space from the edge of the pattie the edge of the buns is your rotor housing. Now there is some lettuce and pickles b/w the patties and the bun the lettuce is your side seal and the pickles are your corner seals. The apex seals should be on the tips of the of the paties but since Mcdonalds has round burgers we'll assume the apex seals are blown (well I guess the apex seals could be the cheese). Now we have the special sauce: This is what seals up the different layers. These are your o-rings. Does this make sense? I don't know but I sure as hell need a big mac now!

I can hear the tune now:

Two all aluminum rotors, o-rings, corner, side, and apex seals, between three iron housings.

Sorry guys didn't get much sleep last night.

although that was amusing, i will not be using that analogy. side seals sit on the rotors themselfs. on the sides.
as stated above, all these things can be seen in your factory workshop manual. except PP housings.
a peripheral port would be like your exhaust port. it is directly in the rotor housing. picture another port above the exhaust for intake. also, your side housing ports are now filled in with epoxy. these motors produce their power at a higher rpm. there are plenty of pics and info out there. actualy, i think racingbeat sells the rotor housings, at least they used to. and i believe they have solid side housings. http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda2.htm

oh btw...this is not 3rd gen spec. so off to another section.
