Question First start?

I am almost done rebuilding my engine. it's an 85 GSL-SE 13b 6port. what i am wanting to know is on the first start after tuning do i do a rev test to ensure that i did everything correct and make sure it holds. or do i wait till after break-in to even think about hitting the higher rpms. it will be a daily driver and a weekend autoX car. the break-in that im doing is 1,500miles below 3k rpm change oil, then another 1,500 miles keeping below 5k. so a total of 3k miles without going wot.

Did you use new bearings during the rebuild? this makes a difference in the break in. If so then I would stay under 4k for 1000 miles and then under 5k for the next 500 and gradually work it up from there if it were me. However I have ripped them shortly after building them, but it is a little more risky for spinning bearings.

Do not rev it after it starts. Try to keep it below 4k. The motor builds better compression as rpms go up due to the seals pushing on the housings more. I would change the oil 500 miles after rebuild, 1500 is too long.

you shouldn't use synthetic for break in, it'll never break in!

synthetics, on a molecular level, have increased lubrication for less friction and therefore less wear. they won't allow the metal seals to "wear-in" as they should.

i thought that only applied to engines that got rebuilt with new bearings and housings.
