FD can't sustain RPM when warm
Hi, I have a Japanese 1996 RX7 FD and my big problem right now is when the car gets warm after about 15 minutes of driving, it fails to recover its RPMs and stalls once I let off the gas completely in low gears.. This stall only happens when 1.) The car is warm 2.) When I let off the gas and put the car in idle after coming out of first or second gear. So for example, I'm in heavy traffic, I'm in first and I give it some gas and creep forward. I push in the clutch again, let off the gas, and the RPM's fall and don't recover, killing the engine. In the winter months here in japan, it can go pretty much all day just fine, but summer is what kills me. I'm somewhat new to the RX7 so any help would be appreciated.

Check the clutch switch. I was having a similar issue, pulled my clutch switch and changed the spring inside with one I had from a writing pen. The switch tells the ECU the clutch is pressed so it can “catch” the revs coming down quickly and keeping it from stalling. If you have a power fc you can use the sensor/switch check screen to see if its working.

I dunno, mine only died when the engine temperature was warm and after pushing the clutch in to idle like you described. Its worth a shot, quick and easy check. If thats not it you would need to post more info about your car.

Check the dash pot if it's not making contact with the throttle linkage that's likely the problem.
Could also be the clutch switch or a combo of both. Once these cars are fully warmed up the idle goes low so if anything else contributes to it going lower it could shut off. Even low compression can cause them to shut off once warm but then they likely won't restart until they cool down.
Another thing to consider is cleaning the ISC or replacing.
