How to drive an RX-7
ok here's the deal i just got a 90 GTU and I just wondering how i should drive it. I know it sounds dumb but listen up. When driving around town going about 50 or so should I drive in 4th or 5th? When I'm in 4th its at about or a little above 3k and in 5th about or below 2k. So would driving around town at about 2k cause the engine to flood or something? Like it spits to much fuel or something so when it tries to idle at a light or something it floods. Maybe this is why my engine stalls every once in awhile? And sometimes it seems like if I just rev it a little more in each gear when I drive it after it stalls, its more responsive and runs better. I just figured that if i keep my RPM's lower that I might get better gas mileage or something. Let me know what you think.

Keep yuor revvs low to preserve gas. I rarely let the RPMs drop below 4k, even in traffic. These cars love to be taken to redline. As for the 2k flooding question, I have never heard of this myself, but it does not mean it is not possible. I never drive/shift at 2k RPM. These cars have very little torque, so it really is no help to keep the RPMs low, except for gas. Hope this helps!!!

Like I said, I really don't think that is even possible. Flooding it would need WAY more fuel than you are running stock. Besides, driving at 2k is no fun!

flooding isn't making your car stall. If it flooded at 2k rpms, you'd be shooting fuel out your exhaust like a hose I'd think...
sounds like a breathing problem to me. Does the TPS come into play at 2000rpm or is it only at idle?
If you are running super rich at low rpms, it would hesitate when you step on it, cough and sputter trying to get more air before really coming to life.

here you go
O.K.
heres what I know, Blake AE is partially right but you have a feul injected car. This means you have a computer that regulates it and that means under no circumstances will you flood the engine, unless your injectors are REALLY messed up. I have the same problem and so did my dad in his truck. It sounds to me like you have a throttle possitioning sensor problem. Take it to someone who really knows what the car is supposed to do and have them check the sensor and the richness you burn. Have them mess with the little screw on top of your intake manifold. If its all the way down that means you are getting very little air into your engine. It just sounds like little probs. to me. The sensor should only cost like 30-40 bucks. good luck dude.
peace out,
