Kind of... a choke restricts air from going into the engine causing it to run rich for starting and while cold. The fast idle cam doesnt restrict any air.. it just holds the throttle plate open for you a little till the engine warms up.

I just figured the thing out today and adjusted correctly. It was way out of spec causing my car to run like crap. The Haynes manual is misprinted on the topic which just manged to confuse me. But its good now.

Is this the same as the FIRST idle cam? The wax thing on the throttle body? I don't know if those crazy jap translators just messed up a few times in the FSM, but I've heard of both first and fast idle cam. Odd.

I have not heard of first idle cam only fast idle from the haynes manual is what I go by. The thermo wax is what moves the idle cam when it heats up.
