Exhaust

Hello all. I own an 88glx and im noticing when I start the car in the morning the exhaust fumes are heavy in gasoline scent I don't get any smoke (very rare) and thank god the car runs great. I know that when I bought the car the guy who owned it before me, removed the charcoal canister. I have not replaced it yet. My only concern is if this is normal because i'm not getting the greatest gas mileage, I have a feeling that this is some how related. I had to put a new cat in order to pass smog (1 month ago). Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance-----Ren

The canister holds the fumes when you shut off the car and then the engine sucks them back in when you start it so without that you may be smelling more gas than normal. It shouldn't affect milage that much but you should get another one soon. You might want to check the line that comes out near the top of the fuel filter to see where it goes. There should be one that goes to the canister but without it I am curious as to where they put it.
