Engine swap

Hi. My name is Harry. I have a 1987 RX7 Turbo II. I,ve had several rotary powered cars before. 1973 RX3, 1985 RX7 GSL, 1989 RX7 GTU and now this 1987 RX7 Turbo II. Never had a turbo. Well this is the problem. I just got the car. It has 180,00 original miles. The engine started smoking baddddddd. I also have oil coming from the mufflers. I think both the engine and the turbo are done. Im thinking about getting a 3rd gen engine. Can I put this engine without a lot of mods to the car? If not can I rebuild this same engine? What are the specs to see if the housings are still usable? Could I use another 13b engine or does it has to be a turbo engine? Any ideas, suggestions. Thanks in advance,

Harry

Welcome Harry. There are some very useful links at the top of the 2nd gen specific page. I have read a few and already my knowledge is greatly improved from when i bought my non running GXL 2 months ago. I'm 99% sure their is a page that deals with engines alone. You may also want to check out http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ I learned a lot from that site as well. The host/moderator/owner/the man of that site is also a member on here I believe his handle is the same as the website. Good luck.

I FD engine will cost you alot of money and you wont get much back in return. As long as you dont blow any seals you should be able to reuse your housings to get buy. The best way would be to replace them. I would use your engine becouse your rotors were made to take boost.
