RotaryGod:

I really appreciate your input about the rotor dish. I had not thought about the requirement of air flowing past the point between the spark plug holes, but you are completely right.

I am not concerned with the preignition possibilities, as I will inject the fuel at the instant that I wish it to explode, nor do I care about NOx emissions during the prototype stage, so temperature is not a concern as long as the coolant system can handle the input heat from the supercharger.

I am currently thinking that the supercharger is the best route, maybe I will use one of my old S4 N/As completely stock and strap an Eaton M90 on it.

Anyway, budget, time and ambition all all limiting factors on the production of a prototype, but I will certainly continue to welcome any future suggestions and concerns (that is why I opened this thread.)

Has anyone ever heard of a housing breaking apart from top-bottom due to pre-ignition or anything at all? I am told that diesel fuel has combustion pressure in excess of 3 times that of gasoline if the Diesel engine is running common-rail fuel injection and a constant-volume expansion cycle (otto cycle) as opposed to teh typical diesel cycle (constant pressure.) This will push very hard on the side of the housing, possibly causing a failure.

I would also like to see this book of Wankel's, but right now I am mostly interested in prototype testing, manufacturing a new type of rotary engine is out of my league.

Good read, rotarygod. I actually never knew that superchargers were used to augment diesel engine compression, and I thought I had an original idea.

Mazdatrix has an area of their site with the results of overboosting. They show that the rotor housing actually bowed repeatedly from the increased pressure. I have also seen photos of rotors that caved in before the apex seals were even damaged. I think this is what you are talking about.
