CPU heat gun resolder

Has anyone tried using a heat gun to re-flow solder their CPU with a heat gun?
I have no warning buzzers etc., and I've read that cold solder joints in the CPU are a common problem.
I have a heat gun that easily makes solder flow but, I'm concerned about over heating other components.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

You need a tool that can focus the heat as a heat gun will greatly increase the chances of damaging things.

I've used a soldering iron and wick to remove solder before.

I've also used this desoldering gun from radio shack and it worked great in certain circumstances.

I wouldn't buy a soldering gun from them again though. I bought one for 45$ and the gun eventually died. I bought another and I burnt the cord because its not "loose" and gets in the way.

i repaired my HP laptop motherboard by tossing it into the oven at 395F for exactly 10 minutes(numerous times in fact, it is a known issue with that particular laptop for the board to break solder joints).

in this case that probably wouldn't work...

eventually i got pretty good at it and fixed the issue with the GPU cooking the boards!

Well, when the cord is cheap and zig zags from the original shape it was packaged in... It gets in the way! I soldered that bitch.

I decided to use a soldering iron
While I was in the mood, I removed the clock to try and cure the flash from bright to dim problem.
I still have the clock problem so I think I'll try the heat gun next. What could possibly go wrong??

The heat gun/oven tricks are temporary and poor solutions. They still create cold solder joints which is the same issue you're already experiencing. Resoldering the connections on the board is the only way to go.
