cooling problems

i just want to doubble check myself before i go ordering parts i dont need.... if my motor gets really hot and blows out alot of fluid out of a heater hose but when i fill it up it barely takes a pint of antifreeze that would be the thermostat not the water pump right, it would still let the fluid go to the engine if it was the water pump thats bad, right?? i fixxed the heater hose already, and im just wondering wich it would be the thermostat or the water pump?

i would change the thermostat first since they're cheaper and easier to change. if the heater hose was just bad the reason u lost coolant and not cause it's running hot. but i guess ur saying it's running hot cause the guage says it is.
